Smithville: Smithville Heritage House and Museum

MUSEUM IN FRONT, ARCHIVES IN BACK

The Smithville Heritage House and Museum lives up to its no-nonsense name – a museum of Smithville history located in a house…but not just any old house. The museum represents a fine example of late-Victorian architecture, built in 1908, and donated late-in-life to the Smithville Heritage Society. Exhibits, collectibles, memorabilia, and furnishings adorn the entire second floor and a most of the first. Smithville, a community that began developing in the first half of the 1800s around a store established by one of the first settlers to the region, certainly offers plenty of heritage and history to fill the museum’s exhibits. In fact, Smithville has so much of it that the museum has built a special, climate-controlled building in the backyard to house its archive. Located on historic Main Street, tours of the Heritage House are available so contact the museum staff to schedule one.
